I have been accused of being a lot of things in my 31
years.
Funny is a good thing. Kind is a good thing.
Interesting, passionate, adorable- more good things, keep it comin'.
Liberal! Communist! Socialist! Well, those are all 'bad' things. Right? I mean, to be a LIBERAL in America means you hate money, you hate business, you hate America, you hate our military, you LOVE welfare and spending 'other people's money'. Oh, and if you are a LIBERAL, you are automatically a Communist and a Socialist because GLENN BECK and RUSH LIMPCROTCH™ say so!
Let's get honest with each other for a second here. Liberals should be PROUD of who they are and what they stand for. There is nothing wrong with having a difference of opinion- and voicing it. It is not wrong to have DIFFERENT SETS OF PRIORITIES than 'Conservatives', Republicans, Regressives, Neanderthals.
While the country wants to blame Barack Obama for our debts and deficits, absolutely no responsibility is taken by the PARTY OF PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. How ironic is that? Let's put the last 30 years in perspective so that people can recognize who exactly is responsible for our debt and fiscal mess we find ourselves in. LOOK HERE!
I suppose it is necessary to keep reminding people that Reagan/Bush I and GWB spent us into 10+ trillion dollars of debt. I do not know how 'Conservatives' can miss this one. Alas, as liberals we must forge ahead with only our brainpower to save us. I'd like to illustrate how we found ourselves in such a horrendous position by describing the parallel between what Reagan did, and how the average American consumer lives their own lives.
Very simply, when 'Joe Six Pack' wants something, he asks himself 'Can I afford this?'. The answer is almost always YES!, but that is only because of the magic of credit. See, Joe Six Pack assumes his income (revenue) will be enough to offset his new monthly payments on that burnt orange Hummer he always wanted (debt). Now, what if his job cuts his hours at work? His income (revenue) drops, and he is forced to make a decision. Does he keep his Hummer? The boat he bought last summer? His new car? His 5000 square foot house? Nah, he'll get a second job. This increase in income works for a little while... and then BAM! Joe loses both of his jobs! Revenue is now GONE. He goes bankrupt and is forced to live in his parents basement. Sucks dude, but try not to make the same mistake twice!
Now, let's look at what the government has done since 1981. If they have wanted to spend money, they spent it. If they wanted a shiny new toy (missile defense, tanks, bombs, Stealth Fighters, school funding, bridge building, health initiatives) they got it. They believed their income (revenue, if you're not paying attention) would help offset the debt they were creating.
Unfortunately, Reagan decided that revenue was actually irrelevant. He cut taxes for the wealthy, and spent to his heart's delight. When the country's debt load outpaced our revenue, we started seeing deficits spike and our total debt quadruple. Not good, right?
Well, it turns out that it wasn't such a big deal. Unlike Joe Six Pack, our government refuses to go bankrupt. We have the Federal Reserve! "Reagan proved DEFICITS DON'T MATTER!"- DICK Cheney.
GWB and Cheney continued to slash revenue and increase spending, which, again, added to our nation's total debt. Did they spend it on anything worthwhile? Well, not according to MY priorities.
But now that OBAMA is in office and spending money? CALL IN THE TROOPS!!! ALERT THE PRESS!!!! RIOT IN THE STREETS!!!! The 'LIBERALS' are going to bankrupt the nation!!!!!
Seriously? Shut the $%&^ up.
Conservatives want bombs. Liberals want books. ;)
Conservatives want war. Liberals want education.
Conservatives want what? I can't even think of anything else they want. Bombs, war, hookers perhaps?
Even Sarah Palin LIKES government spending, just as long as it fits HER Neanderthal priorities. See, as long as 'Conservatives' approve of what their money is being spent on, they are fine with the debts piling up. They forget that there are many of us with different priorities.
I am not ashamed to say I value education, health and progress well above our bloated military. Different priorities. Why are we so vilified? Why is it unacceptable to say 'Hey, cut the crap. You don't need to spend more than every other country in the world combined to keep us 'safe'. Idiots.'
In the spirit of full disclosure, I believe Ronald Reagan was easily one of the worst Presidents ever (top 3, for sure). I also believe that if Sarah Palin looked like Janet Reno, she would not be invading our airwaves unless it was to tell us to 'Visit Alaska!'.
